Sea Dreams was founded on Vancouver Island in 2021 by two people who didn't come to this industry from a classroom - they came from the water. Between them, Candice and David bring over 14 years of professional marine fabrication experience, and the kind of hard-won coastal knowledge that only comes from living and sailing in BC waters. 

From luxury trawlers to performance sailboats, we've worked on vessels of every size and style. What never changes is our approach: we listen first, measure twice, and build once - to a standard we're proud to put our name on.

Our roots are in Sidney. Our reputation is coast-wide.

We collaborate closely with boat owners, brokers, and marinas to ensure every installation reflects the quality and integrity that define the Sea Dreams name.

Meet the co-founders

Sea Dreams was built by two people who understand boats from the inside out - because they lived on one together. Candice and David spent four years as liveaboards, sailed BC's coast extensively, and circumnavigated Vancouver Island together before channeling that experience into the most exacting marine canvas fabrication on the island. They bring a rare combination of lived maritime experience and technical mastery to every project they take on. This isn't a trade to them. It's a way of life they happen to be exceptionally good at.

Candice Santos

Candice didn't learn to love boats from a brochure. She lived aboard a 32-foot sailboat for five years, sailing the length of Vancouver Island's coastline, through the Gulf Islands, and around the island's entire perimeter - a circumnavigation completed at 29. She also crewed boat deliveries in the Caribbean, crossing open ocean in conditions that teach you things no course can.

Her 14 years in the marine industry began at the bottom - detailing, bottom painting, polishing, varnishing and working as a technician - before she found her craft in canvas. She trained on the US East Coast, then apprenticed under the founding owner of Watershed Canvas, before becoming a shareholder in the company.

When she consults on your project, she is drawing on every one of those years. She knows what BC's coastal climate does to poorly built canvas. She knows what a sailor needs that a powerboater doesn't. And she knows what a finished installation should look and feel like, because she's lived aboard one.

DAvid Michaud

David didn't come to marine canvas through a want ad. He lived it. For four years, he called a 32-foot sailboat home - sailing extensively throughout Vancouver Island and the BC coast, and completing a full circumnavigation of the island alongside Candice. He knows firsthand what canvas has to withstand out here, because he's been in the conditions that test it. 

His professional background spans two of the most technical trades in the marine world - marine technician and mechanic, and sailmaker with UK Sails (now North Sails), where he also serviced the industrial sewing machines himself. Trained in canvas fabrication by Candice, David has since become the lead fabricator, responsible for all frame design, metalwork, and the final build of every commission.

He brings an engineer's mindset to the work - every frame he designs is built to fit precisely, flex correctly, and integrate seamlessly with your vessel's structure.

His standard is simple: if it isn't right, it doesn't leave the shop.
